OUTREACH EDUCATOR/ADMINISTRATIVE & SCALE SUPPORT
LOGAN LANDFILL / GALLATIN COUNTY
Under general supervision of the Office Manager, this position is responsible for assisting in the implementation, promotion, and continued growth of the Gallatin Solid Waste Management District’s Waste Diversion Education Outreach program. This includes planning, scheduling, training, and overseeing the public relations component of the District’s various waste management programs, as well as, educational activities, special events and a variety of other duties assigned. Position is also responsible for providing customer service, cashiering, and monitoring through the facility’s scale houses and provides administrative and operational support to the Logan Landfill and the Bozeman Convenience Site. The position reports to the Office Manager and does not supervise other personnel
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge and skills in recycling and waste management; governmental budgeting, accounting, and finance; strategic planning principles and knowledge of Microsoft Office and specialized computer software (Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher and Waste Works); customer service; cashiering and bookkeeping and office equipment operations. The position requires the ability to monitor and maintain safety protocols, work effectively under adverse site conditions, coordinate tasks and procedures with others and ability to organize, manage and control workflow of concurrent projects. The position requires strong verbal, written and analytical and interpersonal skills and must have a thorough understanding of recycling economics and a commitment to the business, science and development of each program from inception to maturity.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The required knowledge, skills and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to an associates or bachelor’s degree in business administration, education, economics, chemistry, biology, mathematics or a related field. Experience in the development, coordination or implementation of recycling/environment compliance programs, including experience in source reduction, recycling promotion, general public relations and customer service is preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: Position must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of Montana or attain a Montana driver’s license within six months of hire and be insurable under the County’s liability policies.
As a condition of hire, the final candidate will be required to successfully pass a criminal history check and background investigation.

About Gallatin Solid Waste Management District of Gallatin County
Solid Waste Management District's in Gallatin County participate in recycling collection, information and educational programs. The Gallatin Solid Waste Management District offers a Household Hazardous Waste Event once a month at the Bozeman Convenience Site. The Gallatin Solid Waste Management District is under the direction of the County Commission, which appoints an Advisory Board. The Board meets monthly with the District Manager and staff at a public meeting held the fourth Wednesday of every month. The Manager operates the landfill under a Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) permit with the policies and procedures adopted by the County Commission and its Advisory Board, and County, State and Federal regulations. The Manager supervises recycling and educational outreach, household hazardous waste, the disposal of municipal solid waste, light construction waste and heavy construction waste, bio-solids, woody waste and compost received at Logan Landfill and the Bozeman Convenience Site. The District is an Enterprise fund, funded through the collection of fees on the waste received. Tipping fees for FY 2018 are $27 per ton for municipal solid waste, $48 per ton for ...light construction and $58 per ton for heavy construction waste.
