Fleet & Facility Maintenance Manager
In order to maintain Suburban Carting’s reputation as providing high quality service, our fleet requires ongoing oversight and attention so vehicles remain in safe, proper working condition and are kept to the aesthetic standards of the company.
The Fleet Manager will oversee our fleet of approximately 55 front load, roll off and packer garbage trucks and team of full time mechanics and welders. You will work closely with operations to make sure all route requirements are met and we are able to continue to provide excellent customer service.
This individual will be responsible for managing the repairs and preventative maintenance of company assets including trucks, containers, compactors and facilities. This will include:
Overseeing purchase of all parts and outside repair services as needed
Distributing work (tasks and project assignments) to team of mechanics, welders and shop personnel
Providing reporting for all relevant active vehicles along with respective status updates for all out of service vehicles including, cause of issue, diagnosis, solution and estimated timeline until vehicle (or replacement vehicle) is back on the road
Coordinating the timing and method of major repairs that need an extended time out of service
Maintaining relationships with parts and service vendors. Sourcing vendors as necessary
Assisting and scheduling emergency roadside repairs as needed
Scheduling and executing installation of compactors at customer sites. Sourcing compactors based on customer requirements
Dispatching compactor repairs to be performed at customer site
Purchasing new equipment according to route requirements and dispose of old equipment (sale, scrap, etc)
Tracking existing warranties for recovery and purchasing new warranties as needed
Monitoring relevant invoices and financial information relating to active vehicles (maintenance, fuel usage, repairs, etc.)
Reviewing and auditing regional DOT required documentation including, roadside inspections, work orders & daily vehicle condition reports (VCR)
Providing guidance to staff on to optimize work productivity and safety
Scheduling and approving paid time off requests to maintain adequate staffing
Recruiting and training mechanics, welders and shop personnel
Visibly demonstrating safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling good behavior
Communicating recurring safety issues that need attention to Safety Manager
Contracting cleaning services, landscaping, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pest control, etc.
Qualifications
Experience managing team of 10-15 mechanics, welders and shop personnel
Valid commercial driver's license
Fleet, mechanical or engineering background preferred.
Previous experience managing a fleet of +50 vehicles.
Experience using Microsoft office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Experience with the following tools are a plus: Dossier Fleet Maintenance, TechTools, Davie 4, Navistar Diagnostics, Bendix and Wabco.
